The shield is the oldest defensive weapon. There are various types and shapes of shields, such as wooden, iron, leather, brass, rectangular, round, triangular, etc. The ancient Greeks usually decorated them with symbols and representations. They were considered examples of honorary distinctions. The first to build it was the king of Orchomenus of Boeotia, Athamas. The figure eight was the emblem of the Boeotian League-Kionon of the Boeotians- as well as the design of one side of the silver stater of Thebes.
