Limpet (patella) is the common name for gastropod mollusks that belong to the Patellidae family. The best known species is the edible Patella cerulea, which also lives on the Greek coast. Its shell has a cone shape and radial protrusions on its outer surface. It has teeth around it and blue iridescences inside.
Limpets cling to rocks, such as mussels and oysters, and to protect themselves from drought during low tide, they adapt their shell well to the rocks by digging a small pit. When there is a flood, they move crawling and then return to their place. By decision of the Greek Government, the trade of live butterfly baits is prohibited, as long as their length is up to a maximum of 3 cm.
