In New Koutali which is situated on the island of Lemnos in the Aegean Sea, the refugees of 1922 from the Koutali island in the sea of Marmara, in Turkey, dealt almost exclusively with sponge harvesting and the elaboration of the sponges. The Maritime and Sponge Museum in New Koutali exhibits show the naval tradition of the refugees from the island of Koutali in the Sea of Marmara beofore their uprooting, the sponge harvesting and the elaboration of the sponges. It displays the archaeological collection of New Koutali, which consists of items that the sponge divers collected from the depths of the sea.

The new thematic Museum of Aegean is located at the island of Lemnos, in the village of New Koutali where a short list of the exhibits is available.
