Vestments were used since the Byzantine era, and they were the garments of the emperors and of the clerics. In post byzantine era, these clothes were used only by the clerics. They were also used to cover themissals and the covers of the Holy Table and in general, as decorative curtains, that are used in the decoration of the temples.

Vestments are liturgical garments and articles associated primarily with the Christian religion and they are used by the clerics during the Divine Liturgy. They are used by any member of the clergy of whatever rank and are insignia of the ecclesiastical hierarchy and authority. In their original form, but also throughout the course of their evolution, they were influenced primarily by the secular garb of the high society of the Roman, Byzantine and post-Byzantine era.
