Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between theSaronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by narrow strip of water.

When the Greek War of Independence broke out, Hydra's contribution against the Turks played a critical role. During the Greek War of Independence, the fleets of Hydra and the other two naval islands of Psara and Spetses took control of the Eastern Aegean Sea from the Ottoman Empire. The Flag of Hydra was the island's flag and it was used as an ensign for ships from Hydra during the Greek War of Independence.

The Flag of Hydra is one of the exhibits of the historical cultural exhibits of the collection of the Hydra Museum - Historical archives.
