Since 1960, the National Historical Museum is housed permanently in the Old Parliament Building, at the Kolokotronis Square in the center of Athens.
It's subject is the history of modern Greece. The period of Turkish rule and Frankish, the revolution of 1821, the liberation struggles, the creation of an independent state, the political, social and spiritual evolution of Hellenism as the current season.
In the permanent exhibition, through paintings and engravings, flags and weapons from national liberation struggles, personal items of historical figures, documents and photographs, utensils and tools as well as traditional costumes and crafts projects of modern Greek one can see the history of Hellenism from the Fall of Constantinople (1453) to the Greco-Italian war of 1940-1941.
