Stelios Gavalas was born in Athens in 1966. In 1985 he was admitted to the Athens School of Fine Arts and studied sculpture, while at the same time he studied in the laboratories of plaster, ceramics, wood carving and metalwork. In 1990 he received the Diploma in Sculpture with honors as well as a Diploma in Theoretical Studies. From 1992-1994 he lived in Sydney, Australia and experimented with modern materials for casting in collaboration with the Sydney School of Fine Arts. Since 1998 he has been working at the Fund for Archaeological Resources and Expropriations of the Ministry of Culture. In 2006 he was appointed Artistic Director. He has also worked at the Acropolis Monuments Preservation Service (Y.S.M.A.). He collaborates with the Byzantine, the Numismatic and the Archaeological Museum where he excels from ancient original works. He lives and works in Athens.
From 1987 until today he has made a number of solo exhibitions and has taken part in many group exhibitions. He has been awarded the Sculpture Award at the "Biennale of Florence 2001". For more info about the artist follow the link https://www.facebook.com/SteliosGavalasArt.
