This edition is dedicated to the unique ancient Greek theatre, which is universally renowned for its beauty, acoustics, the harmony of its architectural parts and for hosting the most famous plays and performers ever presented in the whole world.

This work presents the theatre’s complete history, from the choice of its location, its architectural configuration and the mathematical relations of its structure, which create its unique acoustics. There is also a complete historical reference to the excavations, accompanied by never-before published photographs of its reconstruction, and also aerial photographs of the whole archaeological site. The most important thing in this edition is the presentation of the theatre’s modern history, from the revival of Ancient Greek Drama, with the first performance that took place in 1954, until the Epidauria in 2001, with a complete list of the performances, contributors and reviews.

It is worth mentioning that there are special sections which are dedicated to the performers’ ensembles, with costumes by Tsarouchis, Moralis, Fasianos and others; they are presented through texts and also photographs, which were granted by the Museum of Theatre, as well as the work of translators and set designers of each performance. Finally, there is a presentation of the performances’ music, with scores of great composers, such as D. Mitropoulos, M. Theodorakis etc.

The text is written by Kostas Georgousopoulos, Savvas Gogos and the team of theatre specialists of the Centre of Ancient Greek Drama "Desmi", supervised by Kostas Georgousopoulos.
